Foster Family

Foster Family is a Sims 4 mod by LittleMsSam that lets your Sim become part of the LMS Foster Family Network. After joining the network, your household can take care of foster infants, toddlers, children, teens, cats, or dogs who need a temporary home.

This mod is great for family saves because it gives your household a new role without making it feel too forced. You can bring a child or pet into the home, take care of them, help them settle in, and later decide if they should be adopted by your Sim or another family in the world.

How to Start With the Foster Family Mod

To begin, open your Sim's phone and find the Foster Family phone category. From there, choose the LMS Foster Family Network menu and register your Sim for foster kids, foster pets, or both.

After registration, your Sim can receive a message when someone needs a foster family. You can also check the network manually once per day. The service is available from 8 AM to 7 PM, so if you do not see anything right away, try again during that time.

When a foster child or pet is available, the mod will show you a notification with basic information. If you accept, your Sim leaves for about one hour to pick them up. When your Sim comes back, click the foster kid or pet and choose the welcome interaction. This step is important because it fully adds them into the foster family system.

What You Can Do With Foster Kids and Pets

Foster kids and pets live with your household like normal family members, but they still have their own foster system behind them. You can care for their needs, change outfits, build relationships, and make them feel at home.

The main things you can do include:

• register or unregister from the Foster Family Network
• choose which ages or pet types you want to foster
• check the network once per day for new foster kids or pets
• call foster kids or pets back home if they leave the lot
• cancel a foster agreement if the situation does not work
• plan or change outfits for foster kids and pets
• add caregiver relationships with household members
• check needs when you need to see how they are doing
• look for possible adoptive families
• adopt the foster kid or pet yourself

Pets have a few extra options too. Your Sim can take a sick foster pet for treatment, spay or neuter them, and use pet objects like beds, bowls, toys, bathtubs, and obstacle courses with them.

Adoption and Family Stories

One of the best parts of this mod is that fostering does not have to end in only one way. Your Sim can adopt the foster child or pet if you want to keep them in the household. You can also wait for another family to apply for adoption.

When a possible adoptive Sim appears, you can talk to them first. You can ask about their living situation, introduce them to the foster kid or pet, and then decide if the adoption should happen. This makes the story feel more personal because you are not just clicking one button and moving on.

Infants cannot be adopted by NPC families right away. They need to age up to toddlers first. This is a useful detail to know if you are planning a longer foster family story.

Money Support and Small Details

The mod also adds weekly foster support. Every Monday, your household can receive money for each foster kid they care for. The support is 500 Simoleons for children and teens, and 750 Simoleons for toddlers.

Kids and teens can go to school on their own. After school, you may need to call them back home, unless you use the foster family lot trait or challenge that helps bring them back automatically.

If you have Parenthood, the foster system feels even better because you can use parenting actions with foster kids. Without Parenthood, the mod still adds some simple influence options through its own menu.

Things to Know Before Installing

Foster Family requires XML Injector. Install XML Injector first, then add the Foster Family files to your Mods folder. Make sure script mods are enabled in the game settings.

If you want to foster pets, keep a pet bowl on the lot. The pet options only appear when the home is ready for pets.

Foster Family is a strong choice if you want more meaningful family saves. It gives your Sims a reason to open their home, care for someone new, and decide what happens next. Some stories can be sweet, some can be difficult, but the system makes family life feel less empty and more personal.
