Basemental Drugs
Basemental Drugs by Basemental is an adult realism mod that adds substance-related systems to The Sims 4. Sims can use different substances that change their mood, needs, and behavior for a limited time. The mod also includes short-term effects, longer-term consequences, and options to manage or stop use.
It focuses on both the temporary changes and the problems that can appear with regular use. Most systems can be adjusted or turned off in the settings. The creator has stated that the mod is not meant to promote substance use.
Effects and Consequences
Substances in the mod affect mood, energy, hunger, and other needs in different ways. Sims go through phases such as a rise, a peak, and a comedown. Effects do not last forever and can influence daily life, work, and relationships while they are active.
Regular use can lead to dependency. When this happens, a Sim may get cravings and negative moodlets if they stop. There is also a recovery option that lets Sims work toward stopping use. Heavy or repeated use can create additional negative outcomes that affect gameplay.
Alcohol is updated as well. Bars use real drink names, and Sims can experience intoxication and related effects such as hangovers.
Customization
Almost every part of the mod can be changed through the in-game menu. You can adjust how often non-player Sims use substances, how strong the consequences are, and whether certain options are available. The mod requires the base game plus the Universal Venue List file. It works with most other gameplay mods when kept up to date.
Basemental Drugs is best suited for players who want more mature storytelling tools and are comfortable handling the risks the systems introduce.
